A New Seminar on Water Scarcity in Agriculture at the BA

Alexandria— the Arab Environment Association in cooperation with Science Across the World (SAW) program, affiliated to the Planetarium Science Center (PSC) will organize on Saturday, 17 February 2007 a new seminar on "Water Scarcity in Agriculture" as part of the celebration of the Global Water Day at the BA 21-22 March 2007. The celebration will be held under the slogan "Water for Life" under the auspices of Dr. Mahmoud Abo Zeid, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hany Helal, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Yousry El-Gamal, Minister of Education, and Eng. Maged George, Minster of Environment.

The seminar will discuss the phenomenon of water scarcity in agriculture (marginal water resources) chaired by Mr. Magdi El-Sharkawy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Environment Association and representative of the BA Science Across the World )SAW) program. Dr. Essam Shalaby, Head of the Crops Department, Faculty of Agriculture and Dr. Sherine Shawky Ismail, Associate Professor, River Nile Research Institute and the National Center for Water Research will speak on the River Nile and the development of traditional and non-traditional water resources. Dr. Medhat Saad Azeez, Deputy Director, River Nile Research Institute and Prof. Fahmy El-Sharkawy, Professor Emeritus, Alexandria University and Expert on Water and Sanitary Drainage will also participate in the seminar.

The seminar will include discussions with students on water issues along with cultural activities and entertainment from Al-Behira Governorate. On the fringe lines of the seminar more than 20 organizations and associations will meet to prepare for the Global Water Day Celebration.

The seminar will start at 10:00 hrs at the Lectures Hall, BA Conference Center.
