"Youth Literature Festival" at the BA

The BA Library Sector is organizing as of Today, Thursday, 8 March 2007, the Youth Literature Festival under the slogan "Read Write Now". The BA is participating in this program in collaboration with Tamer Institute in Palestine, Al Mawred in Cairo, NextPage Foundation in Bulgaria, Escuela de Traductores de Toledo, Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha in Spain. The program is financed by the Anna Lindh Foundation.
The BA’s Youth Literature Festival is inviting up to 50 young adults from Egypt to a three-day workshop. Facilitated discussions and debates will cover several themes related to literature: writing and reading process, the importance of research, the current book offering, attitudes and preferences, and understanding self and national identity through literature.
Read Write Now is an initiative to promote reading and writing for young Arabs. It tackles an issue crucial to the development of healthy civil societies; the lack of quality Arabic books for young adults, by stimulating interest in reading (via literature festivals) and supporting the development of new content (via authors’ workshops and grants for books). The project is founded on the principle that books provide access to information and ideas which are vital to engage young people in dialogue and enable them to actively participate in the societies they live in.
