Seminar: Alexandrian Cultural Magazines

Alexandria— The BA organized a seminar entitled "Alexandrian Cultural Magazines" on Thursday, 12 April 2007. Saad Hagras, Chief Editor, El-Alam El-Youm, and Chair of the BA Media Committee, Magda El-Gendy, Cultural Editor at El-Ahram and Chief Editor of Alaa El-Din Magazine, Magdi Bondok, Chief Editor of Cultural Challenges Magazine, and Alaa Khaled, Chief Editor of Amkena Magazine participated in the seminar. The seminar discussed different issues pertaining cultural magazines, its role in disseminating knowledge and culture, and the challenges facing cultural magazines.

At the outset of the seminar, Saad Hagras discussed the problems of press in general, and how it suffers from the narrow scope of issues tackled by its different media. Dr. Magda El-Gendy stressed the social need for an interesting cultural media away from complexity, which some people name as culture.

Alaa Khaled talked about Amkena, an Alexandrian cultural magazine, and how it presents symbols and pictures and uses the symbolism of the places to describe the Alexandrian culture.
