Alexandria— The BA Dialogue Forum will host on Saturday, 9 June 2007, Chancellor Tahani El-Jebali, Judge, the Supreme Constitutional Court.

Tahani El-Jebali will speak on "the Constitutional Framework for the Application of Article II of the Constitution", the article that raised wide controversies within the Egyptian society lately. It is worth mentioning that article II of the Egyptian constitution stipulates that Islamic Shariat is the main source of legislation. This article constitutes a pivotal point on which several social and Islamic movements depend. Also the defendants in many trial cases related to Islamic currents use the provision of this article in their defense, since what they call for is the application of one of the constitution articles.

The issue was raised after the constitutional amendments taking place before the presidential elections in 2005. The issue was tackled again after the governments proposal of amending several constitution articles on juridical supervision, terms and conditions of presidential nomination, election process, cancellation of socialist public prosecutor post, and others.

The lecture will start at 19:00 hrs. at the Lectures Hall, BA Conference Center.
