The 99 Comic Superheroes Presents its Egyptian Hero at the BA

The BA hosted last week Dr. Naif Al Mutawa, the founder and CEO of Teshkeel Media Group, a Kuwait- based company that focuses primarily on creative media content for Islamic children and young adults. Dr. Mutawa spoke on the99, which is Tashkeel's first original property based on Islamic culture and history, and the powers and nationalities of the characters in the99 reflect both the core values and diversity of Islam.
In his lecture at the BA, Dr. Mutawa presented the hero number 16 of the99, who is an Egyptian from Alexandria, his name is "Baky", and he reflects the long lasting civilization in Egypt. Baky has special powers that he can tolerate to exert ceaseless efforts without any exhaustion. He can be involved in several missions at the same time. Dr. Mutawa presented a preliminary picture of the character "Baky" to Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Head, Library Services Sector.
On the concept of the99, Dr. Mutawa stated that the idea grew out of the identification of a significant void in children's media in the Islamic world. Parents have long been aware of the lack of positive Islamic role models and heroes to whom their children can relate. He added that currently children and parents have very few choices when it comes to family-friendly meaningful entertainment, and moreover this void can lead to an even greater cultural divide between generations.
On the historical background of the99, Dr. Mutawa said that according to the legend in the year 1258, Mongols invaded Baghdad to destroy the Caliphate legacy and thus, ancient scholars of Baghdad set a plan to save their accumulated knowledge and to hide all their information in 99 mystical gemstones in a safe haven in Granada. When the Spanish army attacked Granada, the 99 gemstones were scattered across the globe.
The99 tells the story of 99 superheroes- men, women, and children who have in one way or another come into possession of the long lost jewels. Each one of them has a super power, but superheroes need to work in a team to accomplish certain missions, under the supervision of Dr. Ramzy Razem from Emirates, who trains the team. Each name of the99 corresponds to one of the 99 Attributes of Allah, after deleting the "Al" to refer to the presence of part of theses attributes in human beings.
Tashkeel Group, through partnership with famous comics and its production of the99 superheroes, seeks to acquire a special status as one of the biggest media corporation that play a crucial role in publishing children comics in Arabic all over the world.
