Posted on

Alexandria— The BA Children's Library, in cooperation with the BA Research Unit, will organize a lecture on Sunken Antiquities at the BA, on Thursday, 9 August 2007, by Rania Hosny, Head of Research Unit, Public Services Department.

The lecture will explain the definition of sunken antiquities and the beginnings of this field in Egypt. The lecture will focus on the role of archeological missions in discovering many sunken antiquities in the depth of the Mediterranean. This science was introduced in Egypt in the mid nineties, thus, the Supreme Council for Antiquities established a specialized department for sunken antiquities in 1996, following the rescue of the antiquities near the Citadel of Qaitbay, known as the lighthouse site in 1995, and the discoveries in the Eastern Harbor in 1996.

The lecture will start at 12:00 hrs. at the BA Auditorium.
