Celebrating 50 Years of Al-Arabi Magazine at the BA

The BA, in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information, will celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Al-Arabi Magazine on Sunday, 6 April 2008, attended by HE Farouk Hosni, Egyptian Minister of Culture, HE Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Kuwaiti Minister of Information, Dr. Mongi Bousnina, Director General of The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and Dr. Soliman El Askari, Editor-In-Chief of Al-Arabi Magazine, along with Arab intellectuals, writers, and media men. The celebration will include an exhibition featuring the most important photographs of Al-Arabi Magazine over 50 years.
On the fringe line of the celebration, a Plastic Arts exhibition will be held including a collection of the Kuwaiti artists’ works, as well as a Kuwaiti folkloric performance. Marking this occasion, the BA issued a catalogue entitled Al-Arabi.. Diwan of Arab Culture documenting the history and development of Al-Arabi magazine and its publications, including Al-Arabi Al-Saghier, Al-Arabi (Scientific), Al-Arabi (Writers), and Al-Arabi website.
The BA is currently digitizing the first issues of the Al-Arabi Magazine owing to its importance in the Arab world cultural scene. As part of the celebration, Dr. Ahmad Abu Zeid, Professor of Anthropology, University of Alexandria, and Dr. Gaber Asfour, Chairman of the National Authority for Translation, will be honored as the most distinguished Egyptian writers in Al-Arabi Magazine.
The celebration will start at 18:00 hrs at the BA Conference Center, Small Theater.
