The Citadel of Qaitbey Hosted the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue Night

The Citadel of Qaitbey hosted the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue Night on Thursday, 22 May 2008, with the participation of 37 countries of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, and within the framework of culture exchange between the peoples of the Mediterranean. The Dialogue Night was sponsored by the BA and the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures.
The Dialogue Night began with a puppet show, followed by a performance by Fathy Salama, in which he played a number of musical pieces in collaboration with European artists. Fernando Perez played the flamenco guitar from Spain, and Florent Cornillet played the saxophone from France. The Citadel also hosted spin and string art exhibitions, balloon twisting, joggling, origami and painting.
Gregory Kehailia, Head of the Gender, Academic Cooperation and Culture Unit, Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, gave a speech on behalf of Ambassador Lucio Guerrato, Executive Director, Anna Lindh Foundation, stating that the people of the world must live together away from disputes and conflicts, effectuate the role of culture, and conduct civilized dialogues to reduce differences and spread the values of acceptance of the other.
HE Klaus Ebermann, Ambassador of the Delegation of the European Commission to Egypt, pointed out that naming 2008 the year of Dialogue was a wise decision, since it gathered people of the world to talk and listen, which is now happening in Alexandria. He stated that the Euro-Mediterranean Foreign Ministers will meet in Paris in July 2008, to promote cooperation between Mediterranean countries, to reclaim their legacy and to complete the Barcelona Process. The meeting will focus on enhancing trade exchange between Mediterranean countries and formulating an agreement on marine safety. These goals are to be achieved by 2020.
HE Ambassador Mohamed El-Fatah Naciri, Director of European Affairs, League of Arab States, stated that the League of Arab States believes in dialogue among civilizations and cultures, the role of civil society in leading dialogue, and concept of citizenship.
