Youssef Chahine’s Short Films Forum at the BA

Alexandria—On the occasion of the first anniversary after his death last year, the BA Arts Center is organizing a celebration entitled “Youssef Chahine’s Year”. Seven of Chahine’s short films, produced in the period between 1967 and 2007, will be screened today Sunday, 1 February 2009.
The Short Films Forum include:
• Eid al Mairun (The Feast of Mairun), 13 minutes
• Salwa (Salwa), 20 minutes
• El Qahera Menawara be Ahlaha (Cairo as Told by Chahine), feature film, 23 minutes
• Lumiere we Sahbo (Lumiere and Company)
• Kolaha Khatwa (It's Only a Step), part of the long film Adwaa (Lights), 4 minutes
• 11 Septamber (11‘09’01 Eleven Minutes, Nine Seconds, One Image), part of a long film with the same name, 11 minutes.
• Baad 47 Sana (47 Years Later), part of the long film Lekoln Cinemah (To Each His Cinema), 3 minutes
Youssef Chahine was born in Alexandria on 25 January 1926 and died on 27 July 2008. An Egyptian director with international acclaim, Chahine is famous for his controversial works, especially his quartet portraying his autobiography: Iskandariyyah Lih (Alexandria, Why?); Haddoutah Masriyyah (An Egyptian Story); Iskandariyyah Kaman we Kaman (Alexandria Again and Forever) and Iskandariyyah…New York (Alexandria…New York).
Film screenings will start at 7:00 hrs at the BA Auditorium. They are open for public for free.
