BA Announces Winners of the 2016 Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture

The BA announced the winners of the 2016 Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture on 2 November 2016 during an award distribution ceremony. Dr. Mohamed Awad, BA Advisor, and Dr. David Gloster, the director of education at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) gave speeches during the award distribution ceremony.
The BA will also inaugurated the RIBA President’s Medals Award Exhibition 2015 alongside the award ceremony. The exhibition showcases the works of the winners and a selection of entries submitted to the RIBA competition.
The Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture jury convened on 31 October to select the winners. This year’s award focused on two topics: “Projects of Recreational Centers and Shopping Malls” and “Projects by Egyptian Architects Abroad”.
In the “Projects by Egyptian Architects Abroad” category, the jury decided to award the main award to engineer Mohamed Mokhtar Rafei for his Al Qurainah farmhouse in KSA and engineer Amr Hosni Ali Soliman for his German School project in Geneva, Switzerland. Their prize consisted of a medal bearing the name of the Hassan Fathi Award for Architecture and a certificate of appreciation.
The jury also granted Honorable Mentions to engineer Amr Hosni Ali Soliman for his Academy of Architecture project in Switzerland and engineer Shams el-Dein Naga for the Qasr Al Wadi project in Morocco.
The National Organization For Urban Harmony awarded a special prize—two certificates of appreciation—to engineer Adel el-Fiky for his Hejaz Railway Station project in Medina, KSA, and engineers El-Lethi Abdel Basset Hassan and Sherif Farag Ibrahim for the L Passage project.
