The BA Taha Hussein Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired is organizing an event in celebration of the International White Cane Safety Day, in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Hanns Seidel Foundation and ATAA Charity Foundation. The celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, 19 October 2023, at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Abu Qir.

The celebration aims at advocating the rights of the visually impaired in Egypt, and sheds light on the importance of the white cane and how to use it safely on a paved road. It also encourages the stakeholders and civil society to carry out their duties and roles towards them.

This year's events include a presentation on the importance of artificial intelligence in the development of the white cane and speeches on the role of the white cane in the lives of the visually impaired (life experiences), in addition to a range of interactive activities between the blind and their sighted peers. The ceremony will also honor a group of distinguished people in various fields, and will conclude with a theatrical performance entitled "One / Zero", presented by 3aks 3ekas Art and Theater Troupe.
