The BA Organizes Courses on Hieroglyphics, Greek and Arabic Calligraphy

The BA Writing and Scripts Center organizes intensive courses to teach different types of scripts to adults, young people and those interested in studying and learning hieroglyphics, as well as Greek and Arabic calligraphy.
First Course: "Teaching Arabic Calligraphy: “Naskh and Riqʿah”
The course starts on Monday, 20 November and runs until Thursday, 21 December 2023. It is held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in the BA Main Building, Fourth Floor Floating Room (F4).
Overview:
The course teaches the principles of Naskh and Riqʿah scripts and their technical foundations, and presents examples of them. It also teaches the proper way to hold a pen that helps reflect the beauty and clarity of the script. The course is taught by Arabic calligraphy specialist Mr. Mohamed Al-Maghrabi, former director of the Mohamed Ibrahim School of Arabic Calligraphy in Alexandria.
Second Course: "Teaching Ancient Greek (Level I)"
The course starts on Monday, 20 November and runs until Thursday, 14 December 2023. It is held on Mondays and Thursdays, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, in the BA Main Building, Fourth Floor Floating Room (F4).
Overview:
The course will be delivered by Ms. Rana El-Zalabany, a researcher at the Writing and Scripts Center. The Center's interest in teaching the ancient Greek language lies in its attempt to achieve one of its most important goals, which is the study of ancient scripts and languages and the development of writings from prehistoric times to the digital age. The first level of ancient Greek targets archaeology and tour guiding students, as well as researchers and those with a general interest in the field.
Third Course: "Learning Hieroglyphics (Level I):
The course starts on Sunday, 26 November and runs until Tuesday, 19 December 2023. It is held on Sundays and Tuesdays, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, in the BA Main Building, Fourth Floor Floating Room (F4).
Overview:
The course will be delivered by Dr. Ahmed Hamdy Abdel Moneim, Assistant Professor of Egyptian Archeology at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University. It will shed light on the most important basic topics for teaching Hieroglyphics that will help students read the names of kings and nobles, as well as the texts inscribed on the walls of temples, tombs, sarcophagi and funerary and memorial stelae. It will also teach students the basic rules on which the ancient Egyptian language is based.
