The Cultural Debates: A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy (The 5th Workshop)

From 07 Nov 2015 To 08 Nov 2015 The Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center

In collaboration with the European Union, and within the framework of the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is organizing the fifth and final workshop implemented under the theme of “The Cultural Debates: A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”, between the 7-8 November 2015. The event will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, and will be chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, director of the BA.

As the Support to Cultural Diversity and Creativity in Egypt program nears completion, the drafting of a national cultural policy for Egypt emerges as one its main assets; brought to fruition by the Cultural Debates activity which aims to examine ways of improving the cultural sector in Egypt, and to provide recommendations for drafting a cultural policy for Egypt. To realize this goal, and in addition to its 12 scheduled cultural debates, the program held four workshops under the theme of “The Cultural Debates: A Vision for an Egyptian Cultural Policy”, in which experts and policy makers were invited to discuss and analyze the findings of the cultural debates and to make their suggestions for the policy.

Bringing the workshops to a meaningful end, the fifth and final workshop will serve as a rehearsal for the closing conference of the program which will be held on November 14, and will focus on reviewing and finalizing the recommendations incorporated within the proposed draft. The workshop will be chaired by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, director of the BA. Discussing thematic papers that were presented in support of the policy, the event will be attended by a group of renowned thinkers and intellectuals, and will receive extensive media coverage.
