International Project Makes Complete Texts Available Through Single Web Portal

The Million Book project has finally made its material available online at www.ulib.org. The project that was initiated in 2002, and was the result of the joint collaboration of Carnegie Mellon University in the United States, Zhejiang University in China, the Indian Institute of Science in India and the Library at Alexandria in Egypt, has completed the digitization of more than 1.5 million books, thus creating the world’s largest university- based digital repository that provides free access to books. Some of the books are available for free in their entire form, while others that are subject to copyright laws will be accessed at a restricted number of pages. The collection available covers over 20 languages and there hopes to expand the collection in the future in order to host books from all the languages of the world.
