Within the framework of the cultural program of Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s Book Fair in its Sixteenth Cycle, the Writing and Scripts Center affiliated to the Academic Research Sector organized an online lecture entitled “Jebel al-Silsila: New Perspectives on Inscriptions and latest Discoveries”.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Moamen Saad Mohamed, the member of the Swedish Mission of Jebel al-Silsila, and the Director of the Archaeological Unit at Luxor International Airport, at the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. The lecture was broadcasted on Saturday, August 21, at 7:00 pm.

 

The Writing and Scripts center affiliated to the Academic Research Sector in Bibliotheca Alexandria organizes a lecture entitled “The Mamluki Inscriptions in Syria” on the occasion of publishing the book a year ago entitled “Diwan of Arabic Calligraphy on the Mamluki Monuments in Syria”.

This lecture will be delivered by Dr. Faraj El Husseini, Researcher of Islamic archeology and Islamic calligraphy studies. It will be held online on Sunday, 24 January 2021, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.

This publication comes from BA- belief in its pioneering role in preserving heritage and human culture, especially that dozens of mosques and Islamic monuments in Syria were destroyed in whole or in part as a result of present conflict. 

It is worth mentioning that this book is an encyclopedia of the Mamluk scriptural inscriptions in Syria of all types, whether it is in the form of founding, epigraphic, propaganda or religious inscriptions. These inscriptions are not of a specific quality, but include all types of buildings such as mosques, Koranic schools, tombs, citadels, khans, sabils in various cities such as Damascus, Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Lattakia, Jabla, Bab al-Bab and other small cities.

the Center organizes " Visiting Researcher Program" that includes two lectures entitled:
“The Function of Some Special Categories of Stars in the Ancient Egyptian Funerary Texts” (PT & CT) by  Prof. Dr Dr Alicia MARAVELIA, Founder & President of the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology, Professor of Egyptology at the People’s University of Athens. 
And “The Cult of the Nile and the Element of Water as a Source of Inspiration on Late Antique Textiles”, by Sophia TSOURINAKI, Ancient Textile & Loom Specialist, Tutor at SEN, Athens.
The program will be held on Sunday, 29 December 2019 from 12:00 PM To 4:00 Pm, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference, Meeting Room C.

 In collaboration with Special Projects Department, the Center organized 2 lectures by Prof. Dr. Ali Al Gaboury on Tuesday 12 February, and Wednesday 13 February, 2019 at Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center, Room C from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00. pm. 

 The Center organizes a seminar entitled: Arabic Texts and Inscriptions between the East and the West on Thursday, 1 March 2018. The seminar presents various types of Arabic texts and inscriptions that appeared in different parts of the Islamic world, such as Andalusia (now Spain and Portugal), cities of the silk road in Central Asia, and Greece during the Ottoman reign, in addition to the Egyptian experience in the development of writing and Arabic calligraphy. 

The Center organizes a two-day seminar entitled “Lights on Pyramids Age: Excavations and Inscriptions” from 16-17 April 2016. The first activities of the seminar begin with a lecture by Dr. Zahi Hawas, the Egyptologist and the Former Minister of Antiquities, which takes place at the BA Conference Center, lectures hall from 2.00 to 4.00 PM.

The Center organizes a lecture entitled “The Tomb of Kha at Deir el-Medina”, a lecture by Dr. Eleni Vassilika; Curatorial Director, National Trust, United Kingdom. The lecture takes place at the BA, Main Building – Auditorium, on Sunday, 13 December 2015 at 3:00 PM.

In collaboration with CULTNAT, the Center organizes a one-day seminar entitled “Selim Hasan: A History between The Excavations and Documentations” accompanying to the Exhibition documenting the career of the exceptional Egyptian Egyptologist Selim Hassan: "Selim Hassan…Legend of Egyptology".

BA Writing and Scripts Center, in collaboration with the Manuscripts Center, organizes a lecture titled “Arabic Letters in African Writings and Manuscripts” by Prof. Dr. Helmi Shaarawy the  expert of the African Affairs, the founder of the Arab and African Research Center in Cairo and his former director. It takes place at the BA, Main Building – Auditorium, on Monday 11 May 2015 from 12.00 - 2.00 PM.

Among the cultural season organised by the Center in November 2014, the Center  organizes  a lecture entitled “Canals and collaborators: multicultural Egypt as part of the Persian empire",  by Dr. Ian Shaw, Reader in Egyptian Archaeology, University of Liverpool on Sunday 23 November 2014 at the Lecture hall, Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It will start at 12:00.

Among the cultural season of  November 2014, the Center  organizes  a lecture entitled “Finding the life source of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs: Context, Invention, Calligraphy", by Prof. Stephen Quirke, Professor of Egyptian Archaeology and Philology, UCL Institute of Archaeology at the  University College London.

Among the cultural season lectures in October 2014, the Center  organizes  a lecture entitled “Death and Resurrection  in the Book of Dead” by Prof. Ashraf Sadek, Professor of Egyptian and Coptic Antiquities, Limoges University, France.

Among the cultural season in September 2014, the Center  organizes  a lecture entitled “Middle Kingdom Rituals Reflected in Writing: A Case Study from Asyut” by Dr. Ilona Regulski, Curator of  Egyptian Written Culture, Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan, The British Museum.

Among the series of lectures of the cultural season- April 2014, BA-Writing and Scripts Center organizes a lecture entitled “Recent Discoveries at Abousir” on 30 April 2014.
 

“The Writing on the Walls: The Importance of Epigraphy in Medieval Cairo”, will be given by Prof. Bernard O’kane, Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture, American University in Cairo on 7 April 2014.

The last  lecture in the cultural season of March is "Documenting and Dating the Stela Inscriptions of the First Intermediate Period and the Middle Kingdom " by Prof. Hassan Selim, Professor at Faculty of Arts - Ain Shams University on 26 March 2014.The lecture will start at 12.00 at the Auditorium Hall and is opened for public.

The lecture is given by Dr. Ossama Abdelwarth, Director of the  Children Civilization & Creativity Center (Child Museum) on 18 March 2014.

Writing and Scripts  Center organizes a lecture A Delta Capital in the Third Intermediate Period: New historical inscriptions discovered at Bubastis/ Tell Basta, by Dr. Eva Lange,University Wuerzburg-Germany on Wednesday 12 March 2014.

Among the cultural season, BA-Writing and Scripts Center is organizing a lecture titled “Writings and Figures on Andalusia Flags” by Prof. Dr. Sahar Abdelaziz Salem, Professor of Islamic Civilization, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, on Wednesday 26 February 2014 at 12 to 2 PM at the BA Auditorium.

Writing and Scripts Center organizes the lecture “ Unification of Egypt from North to South or South to North?  On 29 October 2013.The lecture will be presented by Prof Ahmed Amin Selim, Professor of history and Egyptian civilization , faculty of arts, Alexandria University.
