LYM Session - 22 November 2009
22 November 2009

Our last meeting began with Mrs. Layla Abdel Hady welcoming the attendees. Then, we had a presentation entitled “A Story of Hope”, Science stories from World War 2 to Nobel Prize 1st Series 2009, by Kareem Soliman. He began the presentation with some videos about amazing creatures that live in the deep ocean. The story begins in Japan with the early life of Osamu Shimomura who was awarded the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 2008 or the discovery and development of green fluorescent protein (GFP) with two American scientists: Martin Chalfie of Columbia University and Roger Tsien of the University of California-San Diego.  Osamu project’s to separate a Bio-fluorescent substance from a living creature, seemed impossible at his time after the nuclear bombing of his country. Eventually he succeeded and went to the United States to work with Professor Frank Johnson at Princeton University.

The LYM organizing members wish you happy Eid, so on this occasion next Sunday will be canceled, we will return December 6th 2009 ISA. J
