Book Launches: Cocktails and Camels

Author: Jacqueline Carol

On 19 March 2009, the book launch of Cocktails and Camels by Jacqueline Carol (née Klat) was organized jointly at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina by Alex Med and the Old E.G.C. Association. An edited and condensed edition of the original work which was published in New York in1960, Cocktails and Camels is the humorous portrait of a family of Lebanese origins living in the heyday of cosmopolitan Alexandria during the 1930s and 1940s.

During the book launch, Dr Sahar Hamouda read extracts from the novel, including passages describing the English Girls' College (E.G.C.) much to the amusement of the audience, many of whom were old E.G.C pupils. In addition, the president of the Old E.G.C. Association, Bonnie Atef, gave a talk on the history of the school, of which Jacqueline Carol was also once a pupil.
