Book Launches: Diaries of an Egyptian Princess

Alex Med organized the book launch of “Diaries of an Egyptian Princess” Nevine Abbas Halim.  The event took place at the Lectures Hall, Conference Center at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on Saturday 29th May, 2010 at 7:00 pm.

Born on 30 June 1930, the eldest of 3 children, and member of the Egyptian Royal Family, she is the great-great granddaughter of Mohamed Ali Pasha on her father’s side and two more great grandparents on her mother’s side.
Drawn from her own diary, as well as those of  her mother and her grandmother, Princess Nevine Halim takes us on a journey from one world war to the next, from Egypt to Europe and the US, from a world of privilege to social pariah.  We meet her father, the charming rebel prince who clashed with the king and championed the poor.
With social whirl, political intrigue, royal gossip, and young love, the fairytale kingdom unravels as princes and princesses dance at the edge. Princess Nevine Halim left Egypt in 1961.  She worked as a secretary until she retired in 1994.  She now lives between Alexandria and Lausanne.
