Seminars & Conferences: Visions For Alexandria: The Case Study of a Mediterranean City


In collaboration with the Governorate of Alexandria and under the auspices of His Excellency the Prime Minister, an international exhibition and conference were held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 17–18 September 2006 to present and evaluate projects submitted for the development of the Eastern Harbor and the area surrounding the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Participants included Mario Botta Office, Peter Chermayeff, Gensler, Pei Partnership Architects, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Jacques Rougerie, Borg El Arab Airport, JAC Japan, ECG Egypt, NACO Holland, Hammam Serageldin Architecture Center, Al-Takamol Co. and Hamza & Partners, and Snøhetta.

On that occasion, Alex Med presented a conference entitled Visions for Alexandria: The Case Study of a Mediterranean City which focused on:
- Alexandria in the New Millennium
- A Vision for the Future of a Historical City
- A Presentation of an Aquarium
- A Presentation of an Underwater Museum
