Competitions: The Architectural Competition for the Development of the Eastern Harbor and its Waterfront


On 24 December 2004, Alex Med in collaboration with the Governorate of Alexandria announced an architectural competition for the development of Alexandria’s Eastern Harbor and waterfront in Al Ahram newspaper. One of the key goals of the competition was a motivational one: to initiate dialogue between aspiring architects on futuristic visions of Alexandria.

There were 49 participants, of which 33 presented actual projects which were exhibited in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina’s exhibition hall. The competition was judged on 8 February 2005 with a first prize of 30,000 EGP, a second prize of 20,000 EGP and third prize of 10,000 EGP in addition to 5 motivational prizes of 5000 EGP each.
