Heritage Preservation: Intangible Heritage: Gastronomy in Alexandria: A Cosmopolitan Flavor in the Mediterranean

Under the 2007 EC MEDA grants for local cultural activities, the Alexandria Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) was awarded a contract for Gastronomy in Alexandria: A Cosmopolitan Flavor in the Mediterranean a project spanning the period from December 2007 to December 2008. Sponsored jointly by the European Commission and the Anna Lindh Foundation, this project includes an open air festival, an Alexandrian cookery book and an Alexandrian Cookery website.

Using food as the vehicle for introducing the diverse and vibrant cultures of the Mediterranean, this project aims to encourage Alexandrians and Mediterranean communities to initiate dialogue between each other based on the theme of cuisine, whilst being able to see and read about the history of each other’s gastronomy as well as being given the opportunity to directly contribute to the project.
