HIV/AIDS is a worldwide pandemic of unprecendented proportions. Low-resource settings, primarily in the developing world, bear the greatest burden of disease in terms of absolute numbers, proportions of adults and children infected, and disease and death secondary to HIV. However, many sexually active young women living in the developing world do not believe that they are at risk of getting AIDS.
