A flexible yet simple way of investigating interaction / effect-modification is to specify the impact of an independent variable as a non-linear function of another variable. Such a regression model can be interpreted in more ways than one. Sometimes people focus to much on the odds ratio in a logistic regression model. Patterns of (log) odds can be derived from the same model and can provide insights.
