The CDSPS primarily aims to explore the possibilities of peaceful democratic transformations on the local, national, regional, and international levels. It also aims, through study and research, to build an environment conducive to peace and justice and to provide the intellectual and practical skills necessary for meeting these ends, with particular focus on human rights, conflict analysis, conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation.

The CDSPS works on providing expert training and conducting research on democracy, women’s political participation, non-violent conflict management and resolution, and peace building. Through its multidisciplinary approach to teaching and research, the CDSPS aims to increase people’s awareness and encourage them to support peace.  It also aims to increase their capacity to foster dialogue and reconciliation.

Seeking to expand its role both regionally and internationally, the CDSPS engages in strategic partnerships with institutions and intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations involved in peace and democracy studies worldwide.
